A table set, a place to meet,
Beneath a dark and glittering sky, the betrothed greet,
With soft, secretive eyes and giddy smiles,
And pattering hearts underneath draped velvet styles,
Between bushes blushing with dark, ripened berries,
A collection of all that is most lovely and merry
A table dressed with shining silver and cloths soft and fine,
Displayed here are the flowers we picked, encircled by richest food and wine,
Candles aflame, spread out like a private galaxy, flickering across our sheepish faces,
Words become silly, unnecessary in such sacred, intimate spaces,
Here is a secret spot, set specially for you and me,
Where the quiet kindly gathers and the unwanted noises flee
The late summer dew collects upon wine-stained glass,
Like gentle tears of simply understood happiness,
Moments of hush under shimmering stars above,
That dance on tiptoes in turn for the dearly beloved,
What song plays now? It is the sweet stillness within,
For our hearts are content with such a purely beautiful end
