A table for two
For the lover of your soul and you
It may be a rough road to get there
It may even cost your life but not one hair
Shall be lost or forgotten
For all is held by Him
If you stay the course and look ahead,
You’ll only lose what was already dead
Yes, He’ll loose you of every dark thing
And in exchange give you a robe and a ring
And even though you may have begun
By searching for many prizes to be won
You’ll soon find your goal to be just one
Yes, even the good things you thought you should seek
Will become secondary as you sink deep
Into the presence of the One your heart desires
All of heaven, the angels, and saints conspire
To show you the Only One worthy of your affection
In the light of His face you will easily accept correction
Indeed you’ll even ask to be broken, destroyed
If only He’ll come and fill the void
Not with all the gifts and blessings
But with His presence, no more precious thing
For the more you taste and see,
The more free you’ll be
From desires for lesser lovers
It’s true, His presence uncovers
The Truth of what your soul has been seeking
To lose yourself in the eating and drinking
Of the meal prepared before you were born
Brought to the table by nails and thorns
Yes, it’s all you’ve ever wanted, short of nothing
You may ask, “But what do I bring?”
Just your whole self, short of nothing
And you may think, “But I’ve lost parts of me”
Well, He knows where lost things are and He is the key
And indeed as you behold Him and feast
You’ll discover you’re actually just a piece
Of Him who formed you and holds you
You’re nothing without Him, but He desperately wants you
You can’t find yourself apart from Him,
For without Him there is no you
He’s the reason you live and there is no other
Search far and wide and you’ll only discover
That no one else in the heavens or earth
Compare to all that He’s worth
Worthy of your time, tears, and oil
Nothing you leave at His feet will spoil
But anything given to another will rot
For blessing, honor, glory, and power they have not
Only One stands alone on the throne at the table
Only One by which all men are able
To be fed and freed and fully redeemed
And given the inheritance of the King
But the inheritance is Himself, don’t you see?
Yes, it’s Him, it’s Him, it’s Him in the end
But, don’t wait til then!
Give yourself now to Him, the most beautiful of ten thousand
The most worthy of all gods and men
I urge you, come, awaken love
Know Him
