Into the forest, I follow you

Your footsteps soft on the leaf-littered floor

Your deep, sacred scent trailing sweetly behind

You wandered gracefully through tall trees

In the darkness, you bring peace

Quietness fills the whole forest

Animals still themselves before you

The moon shines, glows upon your face,

Beams bouncing off of your eyes

For a moment, I don’t see you anymore

The trees become too thick and the darkness closes in

But you are near and I know I will find you

Twisting through the evergreens, sweeping around the pines

The coolness of the night is yours and rest is on your mind

I turn a corner and there you are once again

Your hand outstretched towards me

Your eyes locking with mine

“Come, stay with me. Spend this night with me, alone, together, at last.”

And so there we stayed, your cloak covering the damp ground

Your robe generously extended over me

The soft oak leaves, our cushion

In the forest, you found me

In the forest, you took me away and gave me yourself

You gave me an evening, just the two of us,

To have and to keep, forever.
