Allie’s journey to birth keeping began with a fascination with nutrition. After years of independent study and working as a trained personal chef, she realized nutrition was what fueled her passion for food. As she entered her late twenties and found herself surrounded by friends that were becoming mothers, she began digging into preconception and pregnancy nutrition. This quickly evolved into a desire to study everything to do with natural conception, pregnancy, and birth.
Her years of seeking personal healing had shown her the pitfalls of the medical system, even including holistic or integrative practices. She developed a core belief that no one else can be made responsible for one’s own healing. While we’re all interconnected and can offer each other our unique gifts, understandings, and perspectives, we must each take full responsibility and authority over ourselves. When responsibility is given away, powerlessness, trauma, and suffering almost always follow.
When birth became her focus, she knew she could only study under those who share these foundational beliefs including the belief that birth is innately sacred and safe and requires protection not intervention. Her mentors and teachers, Yolande Norris Clarke and Emilee Saldaya, gave her just such an education and training in the Radical Birth Keeper School, which Allie graduated from in the Spring of 2022.
The school trains women in traditional midwifery: a nearly lost art that many are beginning to reclaim. Midwife meaning “with women”, the curriculum focused heavily on how to support, protect, or “keep” birth and all that it is, which is nothing less than a holy portal between worlds. This included education in the physiology of pregnancy and birth as well as training in self-mastery aka how to not sabotage women’s births. In Allie’s view, the latter is the golden ticket missing from all modern obstetrics, including medical midwife and doula trainings.
Allie now serves women of all walks of life who are committed to self-responsibility. Allie simply offers the safe space, effectual tools, and broad knowledge and wisdom with which women can take and apply in their own ways. She counts herself as an authority IN birth, not OVER it. She hopes to always communicate the truth that we each have full access to love, healing, and transformation.
